Foreign Language Courses

FLC offers several third language elective courses for undergraduates, as shown below.

The contact hours for all University Elective (Language) courses are 3 hours per week. Students who have adequate proficiency in the respective language are not allowed to register because the course content are generally for beginners. Please consult the course coordinator for advice.

Arabic Language

PBA 0033 Arabic Language Level 1

Course Synopsis : Students taking this course will be able to produce accurate pronunciation and proper usage of Arabic characters. Priority is given to using simple Arabic daily conversation style. by the end of this course, students will be able to communicate in various situations and cultural landscape using simple Arabic.

Mandarin Language

PBC 0033 Mandarin Language Level 1

Course Synopsis : This course introduces students to Mandarin Chinese. Students would be able to perform a self-introduction speech using acceptable mechanical of oral discourse. This course also focuses on recognizing selected Chinese characters and utilize them in writing. Cultural elements are incorporated throughout the course. Towards the end of the course, students are expected to function well in communicative settings similar to the ones covered in the course. They will also be able to produce short sentences in Chinese characters.

PBU 0033 Iban Language For Communication

Course Synopsis :This course equips students with basic skills for communication in the Iban language by integrating the four communication skills reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students will be exposed to simple everyday expressions, phrases and sentences in both spoken and written discourse.
