Third Language Courses

Centre for Language Studies offers several third language elective courses for undergraduates, as shown below.

The contact hours for all University Elective (Language) courses are 4 hours per week. Students who have adequate proficiency in the respective language are not allowed to register because the course content are generally for beginners. Please consult the course coordinator for advice.

Arabic Language

PBA 0033 Arabic Language Level 1

Course Synopsis :This course introduces students to the Arabic language. It focuses on developing basic listening, speaking and reading for communicative purposes. The emphasis is on oracy skills. The course also exposes students to the socio-cultural contexts of the Arabic language.

Iban Language

PBN 0033 Iban Language Level 1

Course Info

Course Coordinator :

Course Synopsis :This is a proficiency course in the Iban language for Level 1 beginners. The course equips students with basic vocabulary for simple communication in the language. Students will be able to identify the meaning of words in the basic lexicon of the Iban language, and be able to use the word in simple conversation. In addition, students will also be able to pronounce words correctly according to the sound system of the Iban language. Eventually, students should be able to identify the appropriate words to complete meaningful sentences and in conversation. The social norms and socio-cultural aspects of the communication in the Iban language is also introduced in this course.
